THE “DRAGON’S CAVE” CELLAR IN THE CĂRBUNA VOIEVODATE
A unique experience in exploring Moldovan culture.
The “Dragon’s Cave” Cellar is a winery built in 1959, which served for nearly half a century as the main storage facility for the village of Cărbuna and nearby communities. In 2022, after an extensive renovation project, it was transformed into one of the main cultural destinations in the Cărbuna Voievodate and Ialoveni district.
The origin of the cave is shrouded in mystery. According to legend, Boyar Vișcan—after whom the village is named—extracted stone blocks to build his cellar, expanding it to its current size. During World War II, the cave served as a shelter for the villagers for an entire year, protecting them from invading German soldiers.
The Temple of Demeter in the village of Piatra is a one-of-a-kind place, rich in history and creative energy, built from the ruins of an old hydroelectric plant on the banks of the Răut River.
The temple preserves a legend about a shipwrecked people from Troy who found shelter, fertile land, and peace in this region. In gratitude and reverence to the Goddess Demeter, they built the temple in her honor.
Hidden in a wild, enigmatic landscape, this site resembles something from another world. A colossal depression, shaped by unknown forces, stretches across the land like a gateway to Earth’s cosmic past. Legend has it that hundreds—or even thousands—of years ago, a falling star crashed here, leaving behind a deep scar and a mysterious aura.
